IT Works for All Women
What do we do?
IT Works for All Women offers free computer instruction for diverse women in a wide range of locations throughout the HRM. The program offers computer basics, Internet/Email and Intermediate classes in 2-hour sessions over a period of 15 weeks. Classes are small and paced to individual learning needs.
As well, IT Works for All Women offers special classes for women interested in learning PowerPoint and/or Excel.
Module One – Introduction to Computers (10 hours over 5 classes)
Covers desktop, icons, keyboarding, save and save as, fonts, font colour and size,
spelling and grammar check, cut, copy and paste. Updated for VISTA, Windows 7 and
Microsoft Word 7.
Module Two - Intermediate (10 hours over 5 classes)
Covers creating and deleting folders, file management, page set-up and margins, word art, word count, templates, inserting photos, bullets and shading, borders, text boxes, tables and columns. Updated for Microsoft Word 7.
Module Three – Internet & Email (10 hours over 5 classes)
Covers internet searches, copying information from a website into Word, finding job
opportunities, adding sites to My Favourites, using Gmail, sending and opening
attachments.
Excel 2003, 2007 - Level One & Two (20 hours over 10 classes)
Covers workbooks and worksheets, inserting, formatting, adding columns and rows
editing, selecting and highlight data, formatting numbers, cut, copy, past, autosum,
formulas, chart wizard, print preview, page set-up, orientation, margins, gridlines,
headers and footers.
PowerPoint 2003, 2007 – Level One & Two (20 hours over 10 classes)
Covers designing presentations, views, slide sorter, moving around slide show, notes
page, choosing themes, inserting new slides, slide layout, adding images, charts,
animations, transitions, adding sound, movie clips, hyperlinks, saving, packaging
presentation and saving to a CD.
Build Your Own Computer
IT Works for All Women also offers a two-day course where women learn to assemble their own computers, install operating systems and software and get the basics on maintenance and trouble shooting. At the end of the course, women take home the computers they have built.
